My littlest and I hosted a few school friends for an after school Sugarplum Fairy party! Being the youngest of 3 sometimes she just gets carted around to the sibling activities and does not have as many opportunities for fun with friends. Weeks will go by without an opportunity to play with friends because she is tagging along to all of the “to dos” for the bigs. We decided that a planned play date was in order and took some extra time to make it super special.
I used a Sugarplum Fairy Nutcracker and a pastel colored Nutcracker for our table centerpiece. I scattered classic bottle brush trees and strands of pearls around the guests of honor. The pearls are leftover decor that I used at a dance banquet. A giant roll of pearl strands is a MUST if you like to throw parties- especially if you have girls. I have used them so many times!
We used bells from the Dollar Tree as a place card holder at each place setting. The iridescent, card stock star with each friend’s name printed on it was punched with a hole and tied with some baker’s twine to double as a tree topper.
We hot glued three small dots to the top of a jelly jar lid to adhere a small, plastic ornament. We cut cute paper straws in half for each ornament drink. We filled them with pink lemonade. A perfect drink for a Sugarplum Fairy soiree!
I hung greens and pearls from my chandelier, along with these great battery powered icicles from Dollar Tree. They were in a pack of 3 for $1 and came loaded with batteries! Score! These would be so great for a Frozen themed birthday party!
I used left over scraps of white fur fabric that I used at my hubby’s 40th birthday party. We draped them over the buffet and used it as a table runner down the center of the table. The pink, metallic candle holders are from Dollar Tree. The ribbon is from Hobby Lobby. I picked it up during half price week of course!
Our party was right after school so the girls needed a light snack before I unveiled all of the sugar!! We had fruit, chips and dip, cheese, etc. Just something light and simple before indulging in all of the yummy treats!
Each guest received a small flocked tree that we purchased from the Target dollar section to decorate and take home as a party favor.
Big sis walked around and offered sugared candies to use as ornaments for the mini trees. I made a big batch of thick, royal icing for the girls to use as glue. We placed a few dollops in snack sized zip locked baggies and snipped a small hole at the corner to use for piping. The girls used small, metal ornament hooks to glue onto each candy. We let them dry as we decorated cookies, played games, etc. before hanging them on the tree. It really takes about an hour to dry, but overnight would be even better.
I bought a small bag of silver and gold tinsel from Hobby Lobby and sprinkled it down the center of the table for decor. Each guest could just grab a handful and dust their tree for a little sparkle.
The girls had so much fun tracking Wondy our elf. They swore he moved around the entire party to stay with them. Lol!
I made gingerbread cookies from my favorite pre-packaged mix. I used a castle cookie cutter to cut them into a Sugarplum Fairy castle. Each girlie used the icing at the table and some Christmas themed sprinkles to decorate their cookie.
These little gingerbread houses were used as prizes for a game. They are from Dollar Tree. They were great additions for decor as well. I placed them on my buffet on top of cupcake pedestals. I grab these cupcake pedestals from the Target dollar section every time they sell them. They are great to put little cakes (cupcakes or mini bundts from Everything Bundt Cakes) on and gift to friends for birthday presents.
Have you seen the Nutcracker movie that came out this winter? When we saw the Sugarplum Fairy, all we could focus on was her cotton candy hair!! So, each guest took home a twisted marshmallow covered in peppermint cotton candy on a pearl rod.
One of the party guests brought a candy favor for each girl. We placed them and twisted pink and purple lollypops from Dollar Tree in white bags for a gift exchange. My oldest read “Twas a Night Before Christmas.” It has the key words “left” and “right” woven into the story. Each time the guest hears the word “left” they pass the gift to the left or “right” they pass to the right. When the story ends they open their gift! It is so fun and really helps solidify “right” from “left” for little ones.
I’d say my baby had the time of her life! I hope we’ve given you some fun, simple ideas to incorporate into your holiday season filled with quality time with friends and family!
