Flower Rings. Bouquets on a finger. Ring corsage. Floral Ring. Whatever you call it, it is my new obsession!!! Move over boutonnieres and corsages…flower rings are EVERYTHING! A fun, wearable bouquet of celebration! Here is how I made this delicate, regal flower ring….
I gathered all of this from home. So much of the fun in crafting is using what you have on hand. It forces you to improvise and be creative!
You will need a gum ball machine ring or something similar. I used a spider ring because I have plenty for Halloween. I clipped the ring in the back to allow it to expand for a perfect fit. The current size was for kiddos. Then I clipped the legs of the spider so that I just had a good base/body to allow the flowers to rest upon.
Next, I hot glued some elastic to the inside of the ring, leaving an extra 1/8th of an inch in the back for expansion.
After hot gluing the elastic, I covered the outside of the ring with some green, satin ribbon to give it a clean look. I left extra ribbon loose over the elastic in the back where the ring separates so that the elastic was free to expand and and the ribbon would not be a hinderance. Size the extra elastic and ribbon gap according to your recipient.
Next, I gathered some flowers from the yard. I love the elegance of white and neutral flowers so a white mum was a great choice. I also chose flowers that I thought would last a full day without wilting. Mums work great for that, as do ivy, and then other plants pictured.
I used some floral wire to wrap around the stems of the flower/foliage. Then I used a second piece of floral wire to wrap it to the top/side of the ring. I noticed that it lays better if you mount it to the side- not directly on top of the ring. Then, I clipped any extra stems and ensured that the floral wire was wrapped tightly so it wouldn’t poke the finger it rests on.
Less is more, here. I toyed with the idea of adding more flowers, using floral foam, etc. But in the end, after lots of experiments, just a little bit of floral goes a long way on a finger.
After trying it on and making sure it was clean and perfect, I wrapped a little bit of satin around some floral foam for a pretty display. I cut a small slit and indented a ring sized hole in the floral foam for the delicate ring to rest for packaging and transport. I used a cupcake box and wrapped the package with a little twine. These clear boxes would also be great packaging!
It’s a modern twist on an old favorite. It was so fun to see my friend open this little jewel and wear it on her special day. It is such a treat to take a few things you have sitting around at home and make something unexpected. Flowers signify growth, beauty, change = Birthdays. What a simple way to make someone feel loved!
